OUR PERSONAL COZUMEL GUIDE

Leslie & Gary's Favorite
Things to Do in Cozumel

Every unforgettable Cozumel vacation begins with a great home base. From Casa Graciela, you're just steps from world-class diving, incredible snorkeling, oceanfront sunsets, downtown shopping, and some of the island's most memorable experiences.

Over the years, we've discovered the places and activities we find ourselves recommending again and again. These aren't necessarily Cozumel's most famous attractions—they're simply the experiences we genuinely love and confidently recommend to our guests.

Whether you're planning your first visit or returning to an island you've already fallen in love with, we hope this guide helps you experience Cozumel the way we have come to love it.

01 · Where Every Day Begins

Enjoy Casa Graciela's On-Site Amenities

One of our favorite things about staying at Casa Graciela is that some of the island's best experiences begin before you ever leave the property. Whether it is your first morning coffee overlooking the Caribbean, snorkeling from El Cantil's private dock, floating in the infinity pool, or watching the sun melt into the horizon with a cocktail in hand, there is something special about simply slowing down and enjoying where you are.

We often tell our guests not to feel like they need to rush off the property. Some of our favorite vacation moments have happened right here.

Some of Our Favorite Ways to Spend the Day

  • Morning Swim — Start the day with laps in the oceanfront infinity pool or a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear Caribbean.
  • Snorkeling — Walk just a few steps to El Cantil's private piers and explore one of Cozumel's incredible underwater worlds.
  • Sunset Cocktails — Grab your favorite drink and settle in as another unforgettable Caribbean sunset unfolds.
  • Cruise Ship Watching — From the terrace, it is fascinating to watch the ships quietly arrive and depart throughout the day.
  • Yoga on the Terrace — Early mornings and even rainy afternoons make for an incredibly peaceful practice.
  • Pool (Penthouse) & Chess — Challenge your family or friends to a game of billiards or chess before heading out for dinner.

In fact, do not be surprised if one of your favorite days in Cozumel ends up being the day you never left Casa Graciela.

02 · The Reason We Fell in Love with Cozumel

Scuba Diving in Cozumel

There are very few places in the world that can completely change the way you think about the ocean. Cozumel is one of them.

Whether you are taking your first breath underwater or have hundreds of dives behind you, there is something unforgettable about drifting effortlessly above vibrant coral reefs in warm, crystal-clear Caribbean water. The dramatic walls, colorful marine life, and incredible visibility make it easy to understand why diving here became one of the experiences we love most.

Why We Love Diving Here

  • Effortless Drift Diving — Relax and let the gentle current carry you across some of Cozumel's most beautiful reef systems.
  • Incredible Visibility — On a clear day, it can feel less like diving and more like flying above the reef.
  • Vibrant Marine Life — Turtles, eagle rays, nurse sharks, colorful tropical fish, and dramatic coral formations make every dive different.
  • Warm Caribbean Water — Comfortable conditions make Cozumel inviting for both experienced divers and those just getting started.
  • Private Dock Pickup — Your dive boat can meet you directly at El Cantil's private dock, just steps from Casa Graciela.

Our Personal Recommendation: Although Cozumel has many excellent dive operators, we personally dive with and confidently recommend Scuba Mau. Over the years, so many of our guests have enjoyed diving with them that they've become our preferred dive partner. Their small groups, professional guides, attention to safety, and relaxed atmosphere make every day on the water enjoyable. Best of all, they'll pick you up directly from El Cantil's private dock—just steps from Casa Graciela—so your dive day begins the moment you walk downstairs.

03 · People We Trust

Trusted Local Experiences

One of the things we have learned after years of living in Cozumel is that who you book with often matters just as much as what you book.

There are hundreds of excursions available across the island, but the experience can vary tremendously depending on the people behind the tour. The two local businesses below are the ones we confidently recommend to our own guests. They are professional, dependable, and genuinely care about creating unforgettable experiences—not simply selling another tour.

Our Trusted Local Partners

  • Flip Concierge & Tours Cozumel — Whether you are planning a private island tour, snorkeling adventure, fishing charter, car rental, airport transportation, or even a special celebration, Cindy and her team seem to know everyone on the island. She is incredibly connected within the Cozumel community and has become our first recommendation whenever guests ask, "Who should we book with?"
  • Pesca Solos Experiences — For something more personal, Dario is hard to beat. We have known him for years, and every day on the water feels less like a commercial tour and more like spending the day with a friend who truly loves the Caribbean. His private panga comfortably accommodates up to six guests and is perfect for snorkeling, fishing, hidden beaches, or a relaxing custom day on the water.

Why We Recommend Them: We have confidently referred many Casa Graciela guests to Cindy and Dario over the years, and they have consistently taken exceptional care of them. They are not simply businesses we know—they are people we trust with our own friends and family.

04 · One of Our Favorite Ways to Explore

Explore Cozumel by Bike

There is something especially enjoyable about exploring Cozumel by bike. It allows you to slow down, feel the Caribbean breeze, and experience the waterfront and downtown at a pace that is easy, relaxed, and wonderfully connected to the island.

Both Casa Graciela Penthouse and Casa Graciela Pequeña include two high-quality bicycles for guests to enjoy during their stay. They are perfect for riding along Melgar, visiting the main square, grabbing breakfast or coffee, reaching nearby restaurants, or simply heading out with no particular destination in mind.

Why We Love Having Bikes

  • Easy Downtown Access — Reach restaurants, shops, cafés, and the main square without needing a taxi.
  • Oceanfront Riding — Follow Melgar with the Caribbean beside you and enjoy one of the prettiest everyday rides in Cozumel.
  • Explore at Your Own Pace — Stop whenever something catches your eye, whether it is a local shop, a waterfront view, or a place you had not planned to visit.
  • Two Bikes at Every Residence — Casa Graciela Penthouse and Casa Graciela Pequeña each include two bicycles for guest use.
  • No Rental to Arrange — The bikes are already at the property, making spontaneous rides incredibly easy.

Our Tip: One of our favorite rides is a relaxed trip north or south along the waterfront, with a stop for breakfast, coffee, or a cold drink along the way. Wear a helmet, and stay alert around traffic.

05 · Just Minutes Away

Shopping in Cozumel

One of the things we love most about staying at Casa Graciela is how easy it is to enjoy downtown Cozumel. Within just a few minutes, you can be strolling colorful pedestrian streets filled with local boutiques, artisan shops, galleries, cafés, and authentic Mexican restaurants.

Whether you are searching for handcrafted souvenirs, locally made jewelry, beachwear, or simply enjoying an afternoon wandering through San Miguel, the downtown shopping district is a fun way to experience the island's local character.

A Few Favorite Stops

  • Plaza del Sol — One of our favorite places to begin exploring downtown.
  • Benito Juárez Park — The heart of San Miguel and a perfect place to relax, people-watch, or enjoy live music.
  • Local Boutiques & Galleries — Some of our favorite discoveries are the smaller family-owned shops just a block or two off the main street.

Our Tip: Leave the car behind. One of our favorite afternoons is walking or biking into town, browsing a few shops, stopping for a coffee or margarita, and simply enjoying the relaxed pace that makes Cozumel so special.

06 · Even If You Don't Dive

Atlantis Submarine Adventure

One of the questions we hear most often is, "What if I don't scuba dive?" Our answer is almost always the same: experience Cozumel's underwater world aboard the Atlantis Submarine.

Descending nearly 100 feet beneath the surface, the tour offers a rare opportunity to see coral formations, tropical fish, and dramatic underwater scenery without ever getting wet. It gives non-divers a genuine glimpse of the world that makes Cozumel so extraordinary beneath the surface.

Why We Recommend It

  • See the Reef Without Diving — Perfect for non-divers or anyone curious about Cozumel's underwater world.
  • Nearly 100 Feet Below the Surface — The descent gives guests a perspective that is impossible to appreciate from a boat or the shoreline.
  • Great for Different Generations — We took our own parents, and they absolutely loved the experience.
  • Comfortable and Dry — The submarine is pressurized and air-conditioned, allowing guests to enjoy the reef in comfort.
  • A Completely Different View of Cozumel — Watching the underwater landscape pass by through the viewing windows is surprisingly immersive and genuinely memorable.

Our Tip: This is especially wonderful for families or groups where some guests dive and others do not. Everyone gets to experience the underwater side of Cozumel in their own way. We recommend reserving your preferred time in advance, particularly during the busier travel seasons.

07 · Our Favorite Beach Day

Beach Clubs in Cozumel

Cozumel has a beach club for nearly every kind of day, from lively, casual spots with cold drinks and easygoing bar food to more polished oceanfront experiences where the setting, service, and cuisine are all part of the attraction.

Our personal favorite is Buccanos Beach Club. It feels noticeably more refined than most beach clubs on the island, with a beautiful property, excellent food and service, comfortable spaces to relax, and spectacular Caribbean water. When we want a beach day that feels a little more luxurious, this is where we go.

Choosing the Right Beach Club

  • Buccanos Beach Club — Our clear favorite for an elevated beach day with a beautiful setting, excellent food, attentive service, and a more sophisticated atmosphere.
  • Money Bar & SkyReef — Good choices for a relaxed, casual day with snorkeling, drinks, and approachable beach-bar food.
  • Mr. Sanchos & Playa Palancar — Popular options for guests looking for a livelier or more traditional beach-club experience, often at a lower overall price point.
  • Different Days, Different Vibes — Some clubs are best for quiet relaxation, while others focus more on music, drinks, activities, or an all-day party atmosphere.

Our Recommendation: For the most polished and memorable beach-club experience, choose Buccanos. For a simpler day centered around snorkeling, casual food, and a few cold drinks, several of the clubs farther south can be a fun and more budget-friendly alternative.

08 · Where Cozumel Feels Untouched

Tour the East Side
(The Wild Side)

A drive around Cozumel's east side feels like entering a completely different island. The calm Caribbean water and lively streets of San Miguel give way to rugged coastline, crashing waves, open beaches, and miles of undeveloped scenery.

We love making a relaxed day of it—driving with no strict schedule, stopping for photos, and visiting a few of the wonderfully rustic beach bars along the way. This side of Cozumel feels wild, unpolished, and beautifully removed from everything.

A Few Favorite Stops

  • Bar Miami — A wonderfully casual oceanfront stop and home to what they confidently call the best mojito ever. We have to admit, it really is the best mojito ever.
  • Coconuts — Perched above the coastline in a lush, tropical setting, with sweeping ocean views and one of the island's most unmistakably laid-back atmospheres.
  • Señor Iguanas — Another relaxed east-side favorite, especially when there is live music and plenty of energy overlooking the water.

Before You Go: One of the things we love most about the Wild Side is that it still feels wonderfully untouched. There is no electricity, cell service is limited, and every beach bar and restaurant is cash only. Bring enough cash for the day, embrace being a little disconnected, and enjoy a side of Cozumel that hasn't changed much over the years.

09 · A Completely Different Day

Take the Ferry to Playa del Carmen

One of the advantages of staying in downtown Cozumel is how easy it is to spend a day exploring the mainland. The passenger ferry is just a short walk or taxi ride from Casa Graciela, opening the door to Mayan ruins, cenotes, golf, shopping, dining, and countless Riviera Maya experiences.

We especially love mainland days built around history and nature. A private tour allows you to move at your own pace, avoid the large tour groups, and experience the ruins and cenotes with someone who can truly bring them to life.

A Few Ways to Spend the Day

  • Mayan Ruins & Cenotes — Combine an archaeological site with a refreshing swim in one of the Yucatán's beautiful natural cenotes for an unforgettable full-day experience.
  • Golf — The Riviera Maya offers several excellent golf courses, making the mainland an easy option for guests who want to add a golf day to their Cozumel vacation.
  • Shopping & Dining — Spend a relaxed afternoon exploring Playa del Carmen, strolling Fifth Avenue, and enjoying its restaurants, cafés, boutiques, and people-watching.

Our Personal Recommendation: For any Mayan ruins or cenote tour on the mainland, we wholeheartedly recommend Marisa Costa . Marisa is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to the history, culture, and natural wonders of the region, but she also has a wonderful way of making the day feel relaxed, personal, and genuinely fun. She is an exceptional guide and the person we would choose again without hesitation.
